History of sports films.
Ever since the beginning of motion pictures, the genre of sports films have been a vital part to the contribution of the film industry surviving. They then went on to create great profits for all media companies who got involved with sports films. The first sports film which was created was about Boxing fights, they were seen as news fights which now would be seen more as a documentary. The first to be created was the fight of 'The Corbett-Fitzsimmons' fight in 1897. It wasn't until 1911 that the first non news sports film was created. This was called "Harry the footballer", it was a black and white film, as well as being silent. This therefore shows the technological advances which have occurred, such as filming in colour and now sound, these advances helped make the sports genre boom again. The main explanation as to why 'sports' do so well as they do is because they go into deep detail and explore all emotions attached to the sport.
